Farewell Letter from LTC Reinhardt
CBAA
update
1 June 2009 -
The Cowboy Battalion has been busy and I’d like to update the alumni. We started the year with over 80 cadets – in October the 10 Miler team went to Washington D.C. and placed 5th out of 55 ROTC teams. UW also hosted the Ranger Challenge at Camp Guernsey, WY. In December we commissioned 4 cadets. The Bataan Death March team (AGAIN) won the ROTC heavy division at White Sands Missile Base in New Mexico. We also had three individual winners for their categories and a total of 15 cadets completed the grueling 26 miles in the sun and sand. The UW trustees recognized these individuals at their May meeting at the Hilton Garden Inn here in Laramie. We were appreciative and hope the President’s office again, donates $5000 to us to support these teams.
In the Spring we shoveled snow every weekend. Unfortunately we had to cancel the JROTC Raider Challenge in Laramie the first weekend in April and two weeks later we cancelled our Spring FTX. We did manage one day up on Happy Jack for some STX lanes in the snow. In May we commissioned another 8 cadets (3 of these new 2LT’s are Distinguished Military Graduates – top 20% in the nation), and have two more to go this Summer – easily making our mission.
The Cowboy Battalion was also recognized this Spring as one of only 8 programs to be designated “Most Improved” of the 272 programs nationwide – and we received a $2500 incentive award from the command.
The CBAA sponsored the annual Medicine Bow Hike in August, the 10 Miler team, Bataan team and provided two $250 scholarships at the Spring Awards Ceremony.
Upcoming:
August 28th -Medicine Bow Hike and Picnic – all ROTC alumni invited
September 5th – CBAA tailgate at Wyoming Hall – ROTC will provide FREE football tickets to the Weber State game to alumni and friends – CBAA will host the picnic. Call Bev Sanchez if you are attending to ensure we get enough tickets and food.
November 7th - Military Ball - Crane Hill - $25 – all ROTC alumni invited. Please call Bev and send money to her.
The
CBAA needs your continued support – update us on your
status/address/email – come see us in Wyoming Hall, on UW – and consider a
small donation (in addition to your lifetime membership, or $300 to become a
lifetime member, or $30/ year) to support these young cadets choosing to follow your
footsteps and serve in the greatest Army in the world!
It has been an awesome 3 years her in Laramie for me and my family. We grew to love UW and Laramie! I made the tough decision to retire after 20 years – why not go out on top!?!?! The Reinhardt’s are relocating to Helena, MT in June but will continue supporting the Cowboy Battalion.
